SUP Explorer - The Best Places to Stand Up Paddle Board

Launch locations are at the Walnut Point Rd parking lot, near the Outfitter, and at the Eagle Creek Earth Discovery Center Parking Lot. (At the Walnut Point Rd parking lot, the launch point is shared with kayakers, and it can sometimes be muddy- the Discovery Center Parking Lot launch is a floating dock, and often less busy.) Paddling north takes you toward the bird sanctuary. The bird sanctuary is protected, and you cannot paddle into that section, but as you get close, you'll be able to enjoy all the beauty of the large variety of water birds who make their home here or migrate through. (Yes, there are Eagles at Eagle Creek Park! Bald Eagles live here, you can often see them fishing.) Every Wednesday evening during the summer, there's live music on the beach, and it's fun to be out paddling with music in the background!

SUP Explorer Tips For Your Visit to Eagle Creek Park, Indiana

  • There is a park entry fee - $5 a car for Marion County residents, or $6 for out-of-county visitors. You can always support Eagle Creek with an annual pass - they're $50 for a year!
  • Park closes at dusk - 9:30 pm during the summer months, but earlier in spring and fall.
  • The lanes for the Indianapolis Rowing Center are located toward the center of the reservoir - take a quick look to see if there is "traffic" before crossing the buoys.
