SUP Explorer – The Best Places to Stand Up Paddle Board
Peaceful spot 30 min out of Montreal, perfect for paddling after work or for sunset. You can navigate between islands and lots of Canada geese. You can stop and go to some of those islands, which are marked by a yellow sign and have a dock. These islands will often have picnic tables and some even have pit toilets. Just watch out for the droppings of the Canada geese on the dock!
There are several launching points that will give you free access to this Park, both on the Laval shore (Sainte-Rose) and the North shore (Boisbriand). You can also definitely go beyond the Parc de la Riviere-des-Mille-Iles and use it as a starting point of a day-long adventure on the river. Either going west towards Boisbriand (Centre d’interpretation de la Nature) or Deux-Montagnes (Parc Moir) or going east towards Rosemere or Terrebonne (Île aux Vaches). Just be mindful of the wind and current or you might need a lift back!

SUP Explorer Tips For Your Visit to Parc de la Rivière des Mille-Iles
- Parking is free at the Parc de la Rivière des Mille-Iles (”Berge du Garot” sector), but you will have to pay 10$ for launching from their facilities when they are operating (otherwise free). Free access to toilets, drinking water, picnic tables, etc.
- You could also park in the free parking lot at ”Berge du Garot” sector and launch from the end of the nearby street (Rue de l’Île-Gagnon) on the west to avoid the 10$ launching fee; However, not the easiest spot to go down (or up!) the rocks with a SUP in your hands (but doable).
- Alternative free parking near the Berge des Baigneurs further east, close to launching point (a beach, which is also more spacious)
- Berge des Baigneurs is also a great spot to hang out after your paddling adventure and watch sunset (but that is if you don’t stay on the water for it!). Bring a towel or a camping chair for more comfort
- There are several other possible launching points, and thus multiple other parking options. Why not explore them all?
