Do you wish you could find some new paddling spots? Are you always recommending your go-to spots to other paddleboarders? Have you discovered a hidden treasure that can only be experienced via SUP? Well then, let us introduce you to SUP Explorer! We have been working on this project for the last few months and are excited to finally be able to share it with you.
What is SUP Explorer?
Simply put, it’s a map of the best stand-up paddleboarding spots around the world full of information and tips. There are two parts: the interactive SUP Explorer Map and the posts. The map shows you all the spots and the posts provide you with more detail and tips so you can visit and paddle each spot yourself! We love seeing all of your favourite paddle spots when you share them on social media, and we love sharing our favourite spots with you. We put two and two together and it just clicked! We knew we had to build a resource for people like you to share all the cool places you paddle, and to discover all the amazing locations our community has visited on their Thurso Surf boards.

Getting Started with SUP Explorer
The best way to get started with SUP Explorer is to click on any of the pins on the map. Each pin will give you the name and location of the waterway, along with a link to the related post, which offers more detailed information, tips, stories, and photos. Find out who went to that spot, what board they used, why they recommend this place, and any information you need to know before going.
At this moment, the map only has a few locations entered by yours truly, as we’ve just gotten started. As much as I’d like to travel the world and populate the map myself, I realize that it would be far better if it contained content and recommendations from the diverse voices in our SUP community. SUP Explorer is not about me; it is about sharing and building and exploring beyond together.

This is my invitation to you to contribute to SUP Explorer. Fill out our submission form (or click to expand the one below) and soon after submission, we’ll let you know if your entry has been chosen. We’ll also share it on our social media channels, so you and your favourite spot will get your 15 minutes of SUP fame!
Also, if you see spots on the map that you’ve paddled, feel free to add your comments. Click on the pin, visit the post for that location, and scroll down to add a comment. Our goal is to keep SUP Explorer as current and useful as possible, so if you have additional tips or updates on existing spots, you can share them in the comments section,

Let’s build SUP Explorer together!
This project is a labour of love and has been a long time coming. A few years ago, before joining the Thurso Surf crew, I thought it would be a cool idea to have a list of SUP locations around the world. Eight plus years of exploring lakes, oceans, and rivers has shown me that there are a ton of great SUP spots out there, but they aren’t always easy to find. Although there are a handful of resources and some good SUP tracking apps out there, I wanted something simple and streamlined. I envisioned a resource that would be curated to include the best locations and information, and that would be accessible to everyone, even those who are not app savvy or don’t wear a smartwatch or tracker. I thought of taking on this ambitious project by myself, but realized it would be much stronger if it was crowdsourced. Plus I wanted the support of a great SUP company who had the resources and reach to get this off the ground quickly, along with the enthusiasm to support the project, not to mention high quality boards that would already be found on waterways around the world. And now here we are, ready to share this project with our awesome standup paddleboard community.
We can’t wait to see where SUP Explorer takes us all. Get ready to be inspired to explore beyond!
