Inflatable Paddle Boards
All Thurso Surf paddle boards are inflatable, using proprietary woven drop-stitch technology for a rigid, hard-board feel with the portability of an inflatable. Military-grade PVC outer shell, dual-layer construction, and stainless steel D-rings throughout. Every board packs into a roller backpack for travel and storage. Browse: All-Around SUPs, Touring SUPs, Paddle Board Pumps.
Frequently Asked Questions
For most recreational paddlers, yes. Modern inflatable SUPs inflated to 15 PSI are rigid enough that the flex difference versus hard boards is negligible at recreational speeds. Hard boards have a performance edge for racing and surfing, but inflatables win on portability, storage, durability against impacts, and price.
With the included dual-chamber hand pump, a Thurso board reaches 15 PSI in approximately 8-12 minutes. With the optional electric pump, inflation takes under 15 minutes with no manual effort. We recommend 12-15 PSI for optimal rigidity.
Thurso boards are rated to 15 PSI maximum. We recommend 12-15 PSI for most conditions — higher pressure gives a stiffer, more rigid feel. Do not exceed 15 PSI. Always check pressure with the gauge before paddling as boards can lose pressure overnight as temperatures drop.
Deflate, rinse with fresh water, and dry before packing. Store in the included roller backpack in a cool, dry location out of direct sunlight. You can also store the board partially inflated (4-6 PSI) if you have space, which reduces stress on the seams from repeated full inflation cycles.
Thurso boards use military-grade dual-layer PVC with machine-welded seams — significantly more durable than entry-level single-layer boards. They resist punctures from rocks, shells, and dock edges far better than hard boards. In the unlikely event of a puncture, repair kits are included and fixes take under 30 minutes.
