What Pump Should I Get for my Paddle Board?
All of our pumps are able to reach the desired air pressure needed for the firmness of inflatable paddle boards, inflatable kayaks and other items that may need to be inflated. Whether choosing a manual SUP pump or a rechargeable electric paddle board pump is up to your preference.
Factors you may want to consider include speed and convenience. A hand pump for paddle boards include the dual chamber and single chamber pumps. They require hand pumping, but are efficient due to frictionless pumping and easy psi readings. The electric SUP pumps can inflate your paddle boards in around 8-10 minutes without any manual work.
Choosing which pump suits your needs the best depends on how often you paddle board, whether you prefer manual pumping or electric, and what you're inflating. All options are great and will get the job done, it all narrows down to your personal preference.
How Much Should my Paddle Board be Inflated?
Regular paddle boards are recommended to read around 15 psi. Keep your SUP board on the firmer side to get a little more stability and balance once out on the water. Our SUP hand pumps have an accurate meter so you can reach your desired reading while pumping. The electric SUP pumps will stop once the desired air pressure level is reached. How inflated, stiff or soft you want your board to be will be dependent on how much support you would like on the water.
Can I Use a Regular Pump for a Paddle Board or Kayak?
Standard air pumps typically don't reach or generate enough pressure to inflate a paddle board or kayak. To ensure safety and performance, you would need a high-pressure pump specifically designed for inflatable paddle boards, whether a manual pump or SUP electric pump.
FAQs
Single chamber pumps push air only on the downstroke. Dual chamber pumps push air on both the up and downstrokes, making them faster and more efficient.
If you are using a manual pump, use the built-in pressure gauge on the pump. Watch the PSI reading rise until it reaches around 12-15 PSI. The board should feel firm and not spongy when it's fully inflated.
The easiest way is to just open the valve and roll the board from the tail forward to release air. Most pumps have a deflate port where you can attach to the valve and pump to suck out any remaining air for tight packing.
