FAQs

The Aero suits smaller adults, teens, and adults who want a shorter beginner board that still offers good stability. It is a strong fit if an 8 ft foamie feels too long to carry or you want something easier to maneuver without dropping into a true shortboard too early.
Yes. The Aero has 55 liters of volume, a wide template, and a forgiving soft-top build that helps with stable paddling and easier pop-ups. It is one of the better beginner choices for riders who want a manageable 7 ft foam surfboard instead of a longer learner board.
If you still want easier wave-catching and more stability, move up to the 8 ft Spire. If you are already catching green waves consistently and want a shorter next step, the 5'10 Lancer or an epoxy shape like the Garuda or Kunpeng makes more sense than sizing longer.

You get what you pay for. Not a total bust.

Doesn’t offer as much stability as the more expensive soft tops (ones you might rent or take a lesson with) but it’s decent, especially for lighter people/kids. I’m 5’4”, 145lbs and a beginner surfer (also age 35 so no spring chicken lol). I tried this board and for someone like me it would have been a total waste of money. I can use the more expensive 7ft soft tops but imo this one just didn’t have enough volume or width for me…But it was great for my 12yr old beginner!

Comes apart immediately

I bought this a while ago so I could teach some friends but couldn't use it because I left for a deployment. Came back last week and went out the last 2 days with it. It was used yesterday for 1 hour and today for 2 hours. And as you can see, it's completely unglued from the sides and coming apart. Really disappointed and irritated with how cheap this is made. Please do not waste your money. It may look cute but it's trash (this was also in North Carolina waves where they're about 1-3 ft tops and very soft).

Great board to build confidence.

This board is ideal for your first waves, learning to surf, and practicing with different types of waves. Being 7' long, it's perfect because you can practice walking on the board and playing without fear of getting hit since it's very soft and lightweight, making it very easy to transport and store anywhere. The design is unique, retro, sublime, and elegant, and the color combination is perfect. Everyone has a Wavestorm, but this design, at least here in Uruguay, makes it more identifiable and recognizable. Everyone is fascinated with the colors and the wood-like deck; some people have even mistaken it for a fiberglass board.I would definitely buy it again without hesitation. This brand guarantees quality. I've had a Thurso Waterwalker SUP 10.2 for over 5 years, and it still looks brand new, with flawless colors just like the first day.Highly recommended brand and products.

Great board for the price, very happy with it !

I received this board as an early Bday present and used it yesterday 10/17 and loved it. I was on an 8.5' foamy board and ready to progress. I'd say I'm an intermediate beginner, I've mastered the white water waves and ready to drop into a green, unbroken wave. ( 5'5'' 120lbs). I rode the THURSO 7' soft top and was surprisingly impressed!! I'd never heard of Thurso except for SUP Boards. I popped right up on my first wave. For women and kids it's nice b/c I can actually carry my board b/c it's not too wide. It weighs only 10lbs too. You lose a tad on stability, but it's manageable. Get your proper pop up stance down and you'll be fine. I can't WAIT to get out on it again... This is a great board for a good price !! WTG Thurso ! And the colors make it a nice looking board too. Worth it !

Remember to wax it. It is a little slick otherwise.

I'm 212pounds. She floated me easily. I would suggest waxing the board as the soft top is a little slick. It's a good board. Easy to pop up, stabile, the three fins keep her going.

It an okay surfboard, If I could go back I honestly just buy a Wavestorm and or just save the money and get a Odysea. I had my first session with Thurso surfboard and the traction pad ripped off completely. But it rides okay, and if you don't have much money to spend then go with the Thurso.

Hi,

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. First and foremost, we sincerely apologize for the experience you had with the traction pad. You are actually correct—we have recently received a few reports from other riders regarding the traction pad peeling off, and we are treating this issue with the utmost seriousness. Our product team is already actively working on improvements to ensure the adhesive meets our high standards for future batches.

At Thurso Surf, we pride ourselves on delivering great performance and value, and we want to make things right for you. Could you please provide us with your order number, or reach out to us directly at contact@thursosurf.com? We would love to send you a brand-new replacement traction pad free of charge, along with instructions to get you back on the water with full confidence.

We appreciate your honesty and hope to give you the 5-star experience you deserve!

Charlie don't surf. Maybe he should try this ride

Packaged well, no damage in delivery. Have not hit the beach with it yet. Purchased as gift for my daughter who wants to give it go. Seems like it will be a great beginner board. Looked for a used board that might be worth the price with no luck. Figured I would give this a shot. If it survives the summer it will be money well spent. Shockaaaa.

Slippery when wet

the board is very slippery requiring wax. Very different from our last soft top board from a different company

Hi Robert,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback—we truly appreciate it.

Soft top surfboards can vary in surface texture between brands. While some offer more grip out of the box, others—like the Aero—are designed with a smoother deck surface for added comfort and durability. In the case of the Aero, we’ve chosen to cover the IXPE layer with a colored film to enhance its aesthetic and design appeal. While this gives the board a more refined and stylish look, it may feel a bit more slippery than an IXPE or straight embossed EVA deck.

Many riders address this by applying a light layer of surf wax to customize the level of grip based on their preferences. We understand this may differ from what you're used to, and we truly value your input—it helps us continue to evolve and improve our products.

If there's anything we can do to further support your experience or help with traction tips, feel free to reach out anytime!

Great Board Great measures

This board is really perfect, specifically because it's not too thick, not too wide, and not too tall; it's just the right size for both small waves (I live in Miami) and slightly larger waves since it's very versatile. Additionally, it's perfect for kids who are starting out because it's super lightweight, and being 2.75 feet wide, they can easily grip it from the sides. And last but not least, being 7.0 feet long, it fits inside my Jeep Renegade, and I can carry it on my bike with the side mount.

Not best for beginners

It says for beginners in the description, but actually my instructor told me it's not for me as a very beginning beginner:( so I have to leave this one on the side and find another one. This board looks nice and feels comfortable, but it is narrow and thinner than a foam beginner board.

Good all around board for beginners to intermediate

Board is well made, durable, and easy to pick up. Nice grip pad towards the back and easy assembly of the fins. Got several compliments on it. 7" was the perfect size for me. Can take larger waves or white water and light to carry to the beach.

Great 7" beginner surf board

Bought this for my 12 year old who is learning to surf. He loves it! It's stable in the water, has a simple retro design and lightweight. It did come damaged, but customer service offered a discount, which we were pleased with. The design is starting to wear already after just a few times, but he likes the surf board enough and doesn't care about that. All in all, great beginner board!

Look no further this board is for you !

If you are searching for a inexpensive great board this is it. Don't waste your time with the wave storm. The three stringers give this board strength and stability, it doesn't buckle like a taco, like some other foamies. This also makes it very stable when standing. I was concerned with the float of the board. I am 5' 8" and 170 lbs. This board paddles like a champ. The second time I used the board I ran it in the sand and apparently I had not torqued the plastic bolt enough and lost the bolt. I emailed the company and they sent me a full new fin set. I only needed a bolt. How's that for excellent customer service. This is a great buy for experienced surfers and beginners alike.Kudos to thurso.

Great all-around board

I had a couple screws come loose and I lost them in the ocean. The company had no problem replacing them for me so I am very thankful for that. Awesome board for a beginner with good customer service.

It's been about a week of using this and I love it. The first time I got on I knew it was made for me. I was using my friends 8' wave storm and just couldn't get a good wave. This 7' board is perfect. I love how it rides and couldn't ask for anything better.

Excellent beginner/fun board

I learned on a 10' long board which is great if you have a slow, gentle break but trying to teach my kids in shorebreak with a massive board was an exercise in frustration (endless nosedives, tough to paddle/swing the board around). This board strikes a very good balance--wide/buoyant enough to be pretty stable for the kids but not so big/heavy to be unwieldy in the surf. Also sturdy enough for me to catch a few waves even though I'm pushing the weight limit a bit. Will update this RE: durabililty once we've had it a while but overall the workmanship seems quite good, the board was shrink wrapped and double boxed which was nice to see.My only minor complaint was the setup with the fin screws could have been better documented, two of the screws are longer and it took be a bit to figure out where they needed to go: the two longer ones go on the top (closer to the nose) of each of the thruster (side) fins. Since the board is a bit thicker in those locations they need the extra depth--the short ones go everywhere else. All in all, I'm psyched!
