Why choose THURSO SURF soft roof rack?
The Thurso Surf paddleboard racks are made of grade EPE foam padded interior, Oxford cloth bottom, and slip-resistant exterior, which can protect your vehicle from scratching. This soft roof rack is corrosion resistant and waterproof, providing long term durability. We have a removable daisy chain, which is more sturdy and portable for a SUP board car rack.
Installation Steps 1
Place the soft roof racks in the proper position on the car's roof. Pay attention to the distance between the two racks, not too close or too far.
Installation Steps 2
Pass the straps of the racks through the car's roof. Tighten the strap at one end and the buckle at the other end in the car.
Installation Steps 3
Put your cargo onto the racks. Use the provided straps to pass through the daisy chain. Throw the extra straps to the other side of the car.
Installation Steps 4
Pass the straps through the metal buckle. Tighten the straps until your cargo stays secure on your car roof.
FAQs
Wear what you are the most comfortable in! Clothing that allows free movement is best, and clothing that won’t be too heavy when wet.
For flat water paddling you will need one centre fin. For any type of waves, or paddle surfing, look at 3, 4 and 5 fin set.
Your order will be processed within 3 business days. The order processing cut-off time is 3 pm ET. For orders placed after 3 pm ET, processing will begin the next business day.
I use this if more then one person is coming paddling or fishing with me. Sometime I find it easier to inflate my boards at home and toss them on the roof. Very secure, easy to set up and take down. I can put the mounts on and string the boards in 5-7 minutes.
Super easy to install this. Simply place down the pads where you want them (we needed to move them further apart after getting the kayak up there to make sure we weren't denting the hood of the car with the weight of the kayak), loop the straps through the car and tighten them really well so the pads don't wiggle wiggle they hold, and then put on your vessel and strap er down with the provided straps through the loops on top of the pads. Easy peasy! Held well on a 75 MPR test!
We have used these for our luggage, carry case thing and TWO kayaks! They are well designed and well made and does not damage your car in any way.
I love these roof pads and use them to transport my kayaks and paddle boards. My car doesn't have a roof rack, so I've been using foam blocks and ratchet straps. These pads are much more secure and durable. They also are a lot longer than foam blocks and provide more support. I like how the straps secure the pads to the car. This makes them more stable and decreases vibration. The straps sometimes still vibrate in the wind, but if you put a single twist in them, it solves the problem. The cam locks have a cover over them so nothing can cause them to accidentally loosen, which is a nice touch. This set comes with a storage bag that helps keep everything organized and lets you transport it easier. These pads are a little more expensive than other options on the market, but they're definitely worth investing in if your car doesn't have a roof rack.

I just used this roof rack to move my sofa bed with my own SUV. Very easy to use, It comes with 2 straps to secure what ever you are moving with the Rack and also it includes a storage case for everything. Loved it
Till now is used with inflatable board. Easy to use, protects both the roof and the board.
ThursoSurf racks offer impressive stability and protection for your boards. The build feels solid, the padding is thick and well‑placed, and the straps lock down securely even in windy or uneven road conditions. Installation is quick, and the materials hold up well against salt and sun exposure. Overall, they’re a dependable, well‑designed option for surfers who want safe, hassle‑free transport.
This roof rack works great, and it’s super secure. I highly recommend it!
The rack has been great! First trip with it holding my snowboard and snow gear on top and it survived the10 hour round trip and a tow truck!
I bought the padded roof rack!
Simply designed, easy to use - fantastic - great product to use
my personal experience- Just double check the height of Ariel on your roof.
I have a fast back saloon shaped car which dips the roof line at the back so unfortunately the aerial sticks into my SUP board when driving.
I’m sure the board can handle it. But with repeated journey this may wear in one spot!
This is a great product for those easy short journeys and doesn’t take hardly any room up in your boot!!

This was my first time purchasing a universal roof rack, and I was a little skeptical and nervous whether it would work. I purchased this for my paddleboard, which is pretty large & heavy and can easily seat two people. It only took a quick glance at YouTube video to figure out how to secure the straps, and tested out the integrity of the roof rack in my neighborhood first to make sure it was super secure. And let me tell you - these things work! The paddleboard does not move, I even took my car on a little joyride circling the roundabouts in my neighborhood and everything stayed put. Pretty amazing how simple yet effective this is. I have not taken this on the freeway, just on local city streets out to the water. Totally recommend!
My wife used the roof rack to enjoy a solo kayak adventure in the Owen Sound area. She said it was great to mount and secure her kayak to the roof of our Mazda 6. Great investment and quality.
I really wanted to move up to a rigid paddleboard, but I have a smaller car (VW GLI) and didn't want to drop nearly $1,000 on a roof rack and SUP attachment. After researching, I came across this solution and took the chance. Not disappointed at all - this is an amazing solution. It's sturdy and after you get over the initial anxiety, you'll see nothing will move if you install and use it correctly. My SUP weighs 28 lbs and this rack handles it with ease. Everything feels well constructed and it should last a long time. The straps are easy to manage. Once you get the hang of it, you can install it and get your board secured in 5 minutes and the removal afterwards is just as quick. I've driven 100 kph on the highway with my board with no issues. For the money, you can't beat this if you have a SUP or similar board and don't want to go with a permanent (expensive) rack. I would think it would work for a kayak, but I haven't tried it that way yet.
Works great. We use them on the roof of our Nissan PU in conjunction the ladder rack to transport the kayaks to the beach.
The rack works great!! Travelled the highway at 65-70mph for about an hour. Rock solid with a 9'10 surfboard on top. All straps inside & on the roof held tight. Installation was easy with straps through the front and back doors. Roof strap retention loops held the extra rooftop strap secure. The neoprene pockets for the inside straps were very handy to wind up & store the extra length of strap and didn't block rear view vision. Rack and board were very stable. I've tried others in the past & the Thurso Surf rack performed the best. Definitely recommend it!
Easy installation and works as expected
These do a great job of protecting the roof of my SUV when transporting my kayaks. They are easy to install and do exactly what they need to!
We just had 3 pairs of skis and a snowboard bag on the roof and all worked well. As long as you tie everything down properly nothing is gonna move. Exactly what we expected for the price
These are easy to install. Once installed they make carrying kayaks super easy!
I have a Nissan Rogue and it has side rails on the roof but not a cross rial. I have two kayaks and needed to transport them to the beach etc. I'm not going far so a simple solution is what I was looking for. Overall I was happy with the product and managed to fit them the bag was helpful for day to day storage. As an occasional use it was good, I think if I needed something for more than that id upgrade to a more permanent fitting but overall I was happy with how it worked and performed.
I like this set with my mini suv that does not have any racks. It installs fairly easily and doesn't worry me that it might cause damage to my car. I live in Florida and there's fresh and salt water everywhere, so I appreciate that this gives me the ability to bring sandy/mucky yucky equipment home without it going inside the car. I would recommend this set to friends as an affordable brand that is also reliable.
Got this for a Subaru WRX that didn't offer an easy solution for a roof rack. Install is quick, so is removal. The roof pads are nice and thick, and the material that touches the roof is designed not to scratch the paint 鈥?so far so good. The rack will easily hold 1-2 long board surf boards, maybe more. It's also wide enough for my hard SUP.The best feature is that the straps can secure onto several webbing loops, so you can pick which location is most secure and puts the least pressure on your board.I was a little worried that the straps that secure the rack to the roof might cause air gaps in the door weather proofing, but it actually seems to be less wind noise than I get from the Yakima racks I have on another vehicle and that use metal brackets that fit the door frame.Another nice feature is that when I'm not using these racks, they come off and live in the trunk. So you're not getting the wind drag from an empty rack.
Materials and workmanship seem just fine. Easy to use, secure. The one point to mention, which you can take or leave, is that I've heard roof rack systems that require a strap to pass through doors/windows and go along the inside roof of the car can interfere with air bag systems and be potentially very dangerous. I've seen this with roof-oriented cargo boxes/bags - they have hooks that grab onto the door frame, either under or outside the foam trim. Just something to note. But this rack is secure and holds what you want it to hold. Nice to have that option on vehicles without installed roof racks.
It comes in a beautiful bag to store, it feels sturdy and it was great to move my inflatable SUP.
