The Expedition 138 11′6″ Inflatable Paddle Board blends touring speed with all-around versatility — designed for fitness paddlers, distance explorers, and gear-carrying adventurers who want more out of every session. With its slim 11′6″ × 30″ profile, it offers outstanding glide efficiency and tracking, while remaining stable enough for intermediate users and confident beginners alike. Engineered for lightweight strength, the board features a woven drop-stitch core and reinforced carbon rails, striking a perfect balance between rigidity and portability. Choose between 6″ thickness for added volume and load capacity, or 4.7″ thickness for a lower, faster feel closer to the water.
Welded Rails eliminate glued seams — increasing durability and reducing the risk of delamination. A cup holder mount and action camera base are also integrated for convenience during fitness paddling, long rides, or scenic excursions. Ideal for paddlers with smaller to medium builds, the Expedition 138 has been newly upgraded with an electric pump and a free deck cooler in 2026, further enhancing usability and user experience.

Woven Drop Stitch

Woven threads connect the layers for higher inflation pressure, resulting in a stiffer, more responsive board that performs like a hardboard yet remains inflatable.

Fusion Lamination

Fusion lamination uses heat and pressure to fuse two layers of high-quality PVC, making our inflatable paddle boards lighter, more durable, and structurally stronger. This process reduces weight while increasing stiffness for a smoother surface.

New Welded Rails

Welded Rails fuse layers at the molecular level, creating stronger, more durable seams than glued ones. This reduces leaks and delamination, enhancing the SUP board's longevity and consistent performance.

FAQs

A touring SUP is best for flatwater distance paddling, efficient glide, and covering more ground with less effort. The Expedition 138 is shaped for tracking and forward speed, so it suits longer lake, river, and calm coastal paddles better than a shorter all-around board.
It can be, if you already know you want a board mainly for flatwater touring and steady cruising. For a first board used across different conditions, the Waterwalker 126 is more forgiving, but the Expedition 138 is a good beginner touring choice for paddlers who value glide over playful all-around handling.
The Expedition 138 is longer and more efficiency-focused, so it tracks straighter and glides better than an all-around SUP. An all-around board is easier for casual mixed use, small surf, and tighter turning, while the Expedition makes more sense when distance and flatwater speed are the priority.

Just right

Took the 138 on the first day in choppy water with a headwind, and it delivered! This is my balance for speed, efficiency, stability and cargo hauling.
I love how it bundles with an electric battery pump/compressor, so much better than hand pumping or needing to run the truck with a tire compressor. Just what I wanted.

The board arrived in a timely fashion

The board arrived in a timely fashion. Set up was super easy! And on the water, my new favorite board handled amazingly well.

Love my SUP

I am new to SUP, but I know I will be using it for trips once I increase in experience. I love how small and light weight it is to carry. The only hard part was figuring out how to put in the fin the first time. I really like how stable it is on the water.

So far so 3

I received the board within days of ordering it and everything was as expected. Quality and workmanship is 5. I'm new to SUP so I cannot offer a comparison to other boards. I've been out on the water twice, both times for about 1 hour. Looks like I average about 3 mph as a beginner. Board is stable and floats my weight of 150 lbs very easily. Pump works well - it is a 3 stage and I use all three in the process of pumping it up (which I have done once so far). I also purchased an electric pump but have not used it yet. I am able to handle the board on and off our Jeep Cherokee on onto a rack in the garage relatively easily by myself.

First iSUP

I started getting into kayaking last year with a buddy of mine. Because of the inconvenience of transporting a kayak on my car I started to look into the iSUPs. It came down o ThursoSurf and a couple others and the Expedition Touring checked all my boxes. I was finally able to take it out on the water and hooked up the kayak seat to it because it was a crazy windy day. It exceeded all my expectations! I am so happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend this board and any board from ThursoSurf .

Thurso Surf Expedition

A great SUP, so glad I got the expedition, by no means am I am expert paddler, but I found no less stability vs an all-arounder given the 30' width added length, and the sleeker profile and nose does make it cut through the water easier. The extra rigging and paddle straps are also nice thoughtful design features. Great purchase, I'm really happy with it.

Fast!

A little less stability than with a beginner board but great maneuverability and speed. I love that the back has bungee straps along with the front. I bought the cooler to go along with the board and it's the perfect fit. Also I love that I can remove all 3 fins for transporting or storing. The bag has wheels which makes it so much easier to get from A to B. Customer service reached out to me on my initial order because I ordered 2 and they wanted to be sure that was right before shipping. Any other company would have not cared enough. No complaints and would definitely buy from this company again!

Awesome product

Really enjoyed it, but if it was couple more inches wider it would have been more stable for a heavier person that is also putting an 80 pound dog on it . I realize this is a special case. Wife has the 10'6'' water walker and the two are the same width. Stiil having alot of fun with it but wondering if the expedition 1 foot longer than the water walker should be a little bit wider?

First SUP

I already love this board. The only time I've been on a board was a rental at a local lake and it was a blast then. I broke down and got the Expedition and it is a blast. I little more unstable than the rental I had but it's still a very sturdy and reliable board. After about 30 minutes I was used to it and was moving around the lake with ease.

This is my Second Thurso Paddleboard- It's Gotten Better!

This is my second Thurso paddleboard. The first one lasted me 9 years. So, with that reliability record and the exceptional customer service I received with my first board, I had to be a repeat customer.
This time I decided to "move up" to an intermediate board. I've only been out on it one time so far, so first impressions: the board is noticeably faster and more agile in the water compared to my prior board which was slightly wider and with three fins compared to this one with only one. The tradeoff is it is also noticeably less stable, wobblier. I understood this tradeoff going into it, but I guess I had hoped it would not be as noticeable as it is. So, this aspect was kind of a wash. Knowing what I know now and given my age, I would have stuck with the more stable board if I were to do it again.
I still love the woodgrain styling of the board. It's what drew me to my first Thurso and I still find it very appealing. It kind of stands out against all the other boards on the water.
I like the oar straps on the sides of this board. They come in handy when carrying paddle and board to the water. The crisscross straps on the front of the board are thicker than they used to be and adjustable. A definite improvement over the earlier generation. And then there are some on the back as well- good thinking, another improvement. I really like that there is a sturdy handle on the back as well as the front now. It's clear the brand is continuing to evolve and improve. Oh, and it all weighs so much less than my old board. I love this as I carry mine and my wife's board to the water.
I got the complete package and am very impressed with all the accessories. The electric pump with built in battery is awesome! It works great. It even has its own separate bag. It's the perfect addition. The rolling bag/backpack is top notch, having plenty of room and looks to be very good quality. Time will tell on durability. Of course, the carbon fiber paddles are a premium. The cooler that straps on the board is a great creature comfort- perfect for drinks or any other small personal items you want to bring along.
The only thing I do not like about this board, and I think it's bad enough to deduct one star from an otherwise perfect board, is the way the fin attaches to the board. First, it takes considerable force to "pop it" into place. I kept thinking "I can't be doing this right". And then to completely secure it, you use a small "screw/rod" and a very small square nut inserted under the fin. Not only is this tedious, but without a doubt, I fully expect to lose one or both of these items within the first few outings. We're blowing up and assembling our boards in gravel parking lots, grassy side areas, sandy beaches, etc. One drop of either of these tiny things and..... gone. I plan to try and get replacements preemptively; there's just no doubt I'm going to lose them. It probably should automatically come with a backup set. I suppose it's ultimately a more secure way of attaching a fin, but I really do not like this design. It's the one thing that I would say got worse over the older board I had.

Overall, I really like this board so far and hope I get as many years of enjoyment out of it as I did my first Thurso.

Hi there,

Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to share such a detailed and thoughtful review! Having you back with us after 9 years with your first Thurso board means the absolute world to our team.

We’re thrilled to hear that you’re loving the updated features—like the lighter weight, added grab handles, improved bungee systems, and the battery pump setup! It’s also great to hear that our signature woodgrain style continues to turn heads for you on the water.

Regarding the responsiveness vs. stability balance: moving to a sleeker, single-fin setup is definitely a shift! As you get a few more sessions under your belt, your muscle memory will adjust, but we completely understand where you’re coming from.

As for the fin hardware—we hear you loud and clear. Assembling gear on sand, grass, or gravel can definitely make handling small screws a bit stressful. To save you the hassle, we are sending a complimentary set of extra spare fin hardware directly to the shipping address on your order, so you’ll have full peace of mind on your upcoming trips!

Thank you again for being such a wonderful part of the THURSO SURF family for nearly a decade. Here’s to many more fantastic years on the water!

Fast, nimble, yet slightly unstable

This is my seventh paddleboard and my second Thurso board. I purchased this one specifically for the East coast.

Pros: On calm waters, this thing flies compared to other inflatables. It’s also light, firm (at 16 PSI) and somewhat short enough to catch some waves if you want to try a bit of surf. It’s definitely NOT a surf board, just saying that I found it quite responsive to waves and didn’t overly bend in waves compared to other inflatables. The included 3-piece paddle is also above average compared to other kits, it is light and firm, although the paddle itself is made of heavy plastic when compared to the shaft.

Cons: Slightly more unstable than other boards I’ve tried. Also, nothing beats a hard board in terms of speed and stability, regardless of the shape or size. In the ocean, this board reacts to every eddy and wave, making it more of a challenge to stabilize.

For the sale price, this is an excellent all-around board and I love the rechargeable battery pump they include. I also have great experiences with Thurso customer service and they’re very responsible and helpful.

Great Isup

I bought the Expedition 138 Touring Sup with the carbon elite paddle and got the seat for free during their Thanksgiving promotion. The buying process was great. I had several questions and Nathan always replied on the same day and made it all happen. I wanted the carbon paddle that came with the sup replaced with the carbon elite paddle and then hold the shipping for 3 weeks because I was out of the country. Nathan made it happen and everything went smoothly. It's my 2nd Isup and compared to my first, which is a 11'6" x 36" Tahoe, a speed demon albeit on the wobblier side. I haven't fallen off yet but neither will I take my high-end camera on it like I do with the Tahoe. It tracks great with the included 9" fin, less so with the 4 1/2" river fin that I bought. It's easy to handle off and on the water. For the price I would definitely recommend it and as I said the customer service I got was top-notch.

Easy

Handles very well on the water but definitely meets and exceeds the reason I purchased an inflatable SUP - easy of transport n storage. Can just toss it in the back of my Outback, it’s there if I want it but if not, it is not a big inconvenience to carry it along.

In comparison with other board brands that are offered in Canada and that I have experienced as well, Thurso Surf boards quality and structural strength is much superior and the price is still afaffordable

After buying a Waterwalker 120 all-around board last year I decided that a touring board would suit my paddling style better, I was impressed by the quality of my Waterwalker and the accessories supplied with it so it made sense to go for another Thurso Surf board.
My Expedition 138 was delivered within 2 days from ordering and I took it out for a paddle at the first opportunity and loved it. The board is quick, stable and tracks nicely and as it isn't as long as a typical tourer it's easy to manoeuvre. It also looks great, is well made and light/well balanced when carried so is easy for 5'2" me to handle. The fin is simple to fit and feels secure and I like the new style bag with bigger, more rugged wheels.
