SUP Explorer – The Best Places to Stand Up Paddle Board
Frenchtown is my favorite spot to start or end my Delaware River paddle. I will drop in at Riegelsville Boat Ramp 10.3 miles north (other closer launches too) and end in Frenchtown or start in Frenchtown and end at Bulls Island for a 9.3 mile paddle downriver. Bald eagles, egrets and heron sightings if you’re paying attention and lots of other birds too.

SUP Explorer Tips For Your Visit to Delaware River
- Park in Frenchtown to the left of the bridge, go down the street right before the bridge and go about 80% of the way down so that you can see the single lane “bridge” ahead for the best launch/pickup point. It can be muddy if you come ashore directly from the river, it’s usually easier and less slippery to come across one of the mini islands there. This lot is popular and very busy and much easier to find parking earlier in the day on weekends.
- Riegelsville Boat Launch has lots of parking and a portable bathroom.
- Pulling up at Bulls Island can be challenging. The Boat Launch will close at sunset but you can pull up in the canal entrance going downstream before the lock but it’s muddy and steep. The Canoe Launch (which is closer to the parking lot) in the canal is difficult to paddle to since you have to pass the boat launch first and then paddle upstream in the canal.
